Press Release - Pilates Method Alliance

We are proud to announce that a PMA affiliated Pilates Day® event, hosted and organized by Fundación Pilates in Madrid, has received official validation by Guinness World Records Ltd. as the world’s largest Pilates class in history. On May 9, 2009, 862 people came together for a PMA Pilates Day event in Madrid.

The theme of the event was Take Pilates to the Street. It served to raise people’s consciousness of the benefits of Pilates, and was a fundraising event for the Spanish breast cancer society. The record-breaking mat session was led by Mabel Cabrera, head of the teacher training program at Pilates Wellness & Energy®, a Spanish Pilates studio chain. Although 862 people participated in the mat class, more than 1,000 were on hand for the event which included demos, sessions for children, testimonials and an amazing choreographed repertoire by the staff of Pilates Wellness & Energy.

“It was very exciting to be at that Pilates Day event, knowing that they were going for a Guinness World Record,” said Elizabeth Anderson, PMA Executive Director who had flown to Madrid to witness the event. “The participation of the Madrileños was fantastic—whole families appeared ready for a really dynamic day, and they got one.”
