Rael Passes the Torch for Balanced Body beginning January 2010
This program was created to help shape the next generation of leaders in the Pilates community. It was inspired by a discussion with Lolita San Miguel in the fall of 2008.
“Passing the Torch” is designed for Pilates instructors who have been teaching Pilates for many years and long for a deepening of their work through a mentorship program with a master teacher.
The program is set up as a 12 to 18 month cohort mentorship program where you select your master teacher and over the course of the program you will spend three separate weeks working side by side with your teacher and the other students in the program. In addition, mentors will be handing out assignments throughout the program.
This program is not intended to be a graduate Pilates certification program. The instruction is not standardized between mentors. Students will choose a single mentor at the beginning of the program and they will stay with that mentor throughout the year.

Rael will be participating in Balanced Body’s Passing the Torch mentorship program as a guest master teacher in January 2010. The program is described as being “designed for Pilates instructors who have been teaching Pilates for many years and long for a deepening of their work through a mentorship program with a master teacher.”
Students participating in the program will choose their mentor at the start of the program and, over a period of 12 to 18 months, spend three separate weeks working with the mentor and the other students in the program. The mentor will also hand out specific assignments during the course of the program.
Discussing the course, Rael said that it would “challenge the students to both deepen and widen their understanding of Pilates, from the minutiae of a single exercise to the vastness of the overall system. They will learn some of the most challenging exercises in the Pilates repertoire, several of which are seldom seen. At the same time, they will learn the intricate connections between each of these advanced exercises and the more fundamental ones that precede them - the building blocks towards the highest levels of the work.”
Students in the course will also learn the BASI Block System teaching method, a repertoire of new exercises for the Avalon range of equipment (designed by Rael and manufactured by Balanced Body) and how to use the Pilates Interactive online knowledge base.
