How do you find a good certification training program for Pilates? Use some of the following guidelines. Qualified Pilates instructors should go though approximately 600 hours of training plus on-going workshops. The training includes lectures, observation, one-on-one training sessions, practice, workouts and supervised student teaching. A Pilates certification should cover exercises performed both on the mat and all pieces of Pilates equipment; not either/or. Joseph Pilates made every exercise achievable on each piece of Pilates equipment to deal with training different body strengths and weaknesses. Joseph Pilates used different pieces of equipment to help his students feel an exercise they might not have felt on another Pilates aparatus. It is important to know how to teach the same exercise on each piece of equipment. Most training centers require you to feel Pilates in your body prior to acceptance in the program. Directors of programs should have ten or more years of teaching experience. We encourage you to train with more than one training center.
If you are seeking a good training program ask the following questions: Does the program require you to have a strong Pilates body prior to entrance so you can teach from feeling it in you? Does the program require you to graduate knowing how to perform exercises on all pieces of Pilates equipment? Does the program support on-going training after completion? How does the training center support you while you are learning? What is the background of the program director and instructors? How is the program organized? Does the program issue practical and written exams? These guidelines will help you find a good program so that you will become a qualified and confident Pilates teacher.
